Municipal Waste Options

Township of Augusta

Garbage

The township operates two landfill sites:

  • Maynard (3618 County Road 26) - open Mon - Fri 9 - 5 and Sat 8 - 4
  • North Augusta (8212 Coville Road) - open Tues and Thurs 9 - 5, Sat 8 - 4

All of the types of waste below are accepted at Maynard.

Waste should be separated into their assigned piles:

• household bagged garbage into compactor.
 • brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and clean wood deposited in the composting area.
 • tires (free)
 • white goods/appliances such as stoves, fridges, washers, dryers, freezers, dishwashers
 • propane tanks
 • scrap metal, metal door frames, bicycle frames, clean paint cans etc.

Construction material, demolition material, painted or varnished wood, shingles,   mattresses, discarded furniture, and other large quantities or uncompactable material will be accepted at the North Augusta Landfill Site only.

Note:

  • Vehicles and parts thereof must be brought to a licensed scrap dealer.

Accepted at t the North Augusta site:

  • household garbage
  • recyclables

but not:

  • large amounts of brush, grass clippings, leaves
  • tires
  • white goods
  • scrap metal
  • household hazardous waste

Recycling

Recyclables will be accepted at the Maynard and North Augusta Landfill sites.

The following types of waste are accepted and should be separated into the bins/dumpsters:

  • cardboard
  • box board - cereal boxes, egg cartons, etc.
  • paper, newsprint, wrap, etc.
  • plastic containers-bottles, margarine tubs, water bottles, etc.
  • metal & aluminum food and drink cans only, lids from glass jars
  • coloured glass - wine bottles, liquor bottles
  • clear glass - bottles and jars only

Not accepted:

  • window glass or dishes

Blue boxes are available for $8 at the township office or either landfill site.

Hazardous Waste

Small quantities may be placed in appropriate manner in areas designated by signs at the Maynard site:

  • fluorescent light tubes, sodium halogen bulbs, not broken
  • batteries, separated out
  •  motor oil, uncontaminated
  •  paint and paint sludge
  •  varsols and thinners
  •  gasoline
  • large quantities of oil or paint must be cleared with the supervisor and a fee may apply.

Compost

Large quantities of brush, grass clippings and leaves must be brought to the Maynard Recycling Centre and deposited into the compost area.
