Beckwith

Garbage

The Township of Beckwith has curbside garbage collection. Garbage collection takes place on Monday for all residents living west of Hwy. 15, and Tuesday for all residents living east of Hwy. 15. 

Garbage bag tags are required. A yearly allotment of 80 garbage tags is available for pickup at the township office in December.   Each owner must pick-up the tags for each residence he/she owns within the Township. Any person other than the owner of the property, who plans on picking up the tags, must have the written permission of the owner. Additional tags may be purchased at a price of $2 per tag.

Please remember to have your garbage out by 7:00 a.m. on the day of garbage pickup.

Large Household Item Pickup.

Any household garbage that does not fit in a large garbage bag or exceeds 20 kg is considered a LARGE ITEM.

Examples of large items include:  bundles of waste, couches, refrigerators (no longer need to be Freon-free), televisions, mattresses, stoves, etc.  Construction material will not be picked up.

Bundles of waste must be securely tied and must not exceed 1.5 m x 60 cm x60 cm in dimension and 20 kg in weight.

Each large item set out for pick-up MUST have 3 stickers affixed to it.

Rolls of carpet must be securely bundled and must not exceed 1.5 m in length and 20 kg in weight.

White-metal appliances, such as clothes washers and dryers, refrigerators, stoves, and hot water tanks, are to be placed at the roadside on large item pick-up days only.  Please note that they may not be picked up until the following day.

Large item pick-up will take place on the first regular garbage collection day of the month from April to October as listed below:

Recycling

Beckwith operates a curbside blue box program that accepts:

  • #1 small mouth screw-top containers
  • #2 small mouth screw-top containers
  • aluminum trays and plates (clean)
  • cans (metal food and drink)
  • cereal boxes
  • cigarette packages (boxboard)
  • corrugated cardboard (flattened)
  • detergent boxes
  • egg cartons (paper)
  • glass bottles and jars (and lids)
  • junk mail
  • kraft (brown) paper bags
  • magazine and catalogues
  • newspaper and flyers (bags removed)
  • office paper
  • paint cans (empty, dry and lids removed)
  • rolls from paper towels & toilet tissues
  • photocopy paper
  • pizza boxes (clean)
  • pop bottles
  • shampoo bottles
  • shoe boxes
  • soft cover books
  • telephone books
  • tissue boxes
  • windshield washer containers

Not accepted:

  • manila envelopes or envelopes with windows.
  • frozen food boxes because they are coated with plastic.

Plastics #3, #4, #5, #6 & #7 can be dropped off at Waste Management in Black's
    Corners during regular business hours Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Hazardous Waste

Beckwith residents may use the Household Hazardous Waste Depot in Carleton Place.

Compost

The Township of Beckwith has composters for sale for those Township residents who are interested in purchasing one.
