Municipal Waste Options

Brockville

Garbage

Household Refuse. Brockville has a curbside garbage pickup program that allows residents to place one bag/container of refuse, yard waste, or properly tied brush and hedge trimmings per week. Bags/containers in excess of the one bag/container limit must have a $2.00 refuse bag tag affixed to it to be eligible for collection.

Large furniture Items (no appliances) can be picked up at curbside if a large items tag, available for $6, is attached.

Large Items. Brockville operates a Refuse Transfer Station at 4800 Development Drive . It can be reached at (613) 345-2442 and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm (October to May) and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (June to September).

Charges apply. The tipping fee schedule is a flat fee per tip of $16.75 plus GST up to 220 kg of refuse or a unit price of $75.35 per tonne or portion thereof in excess of the minimum flat fee.

Recycling

Recycling services are provided on a weekly basis alternating between fibre collection in the green box one week and container collection (glass, metal and plastics #1-6) in the blue box the next week.

Replacement blue and green paper boxes can be purchased at the Transfer Station.

Compost

Backyard Composters. Backyard composters are available for purchase at the Gord Watts Municipal Centre, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm. Composters are sold to residents at the subsidized rate of $12 plus applicable taxes and include an instructional video.

Leaf Pickup. Curbside collection of leaves is provided by the City during designated weeks in the Fall. Place leaves in regular or yard sized refuse bags.  Bags must contain leaves only.  Bags must not contain any branches or refuse.   Ensure that the bags of leaves are placed in a separate pile from your normal weekly refuse.

Leaf and Yard Waste Composting. The composting facility is located on the grounds of the Gord Watts Centre, 251 North Augusta Road. Curbside collection of leaves is provided by the City during designated weeks in the Fall. Residents are also encouraged to deliver their bagged leaves to deposit on site. Finished compost is available in the spring for free pick-up and is usually advertised in the local newspaper.

Residents that do not want to deliver their wood waste to the composting site may place brush and hedge trimmings curbside with their regular refuse collection.

Hazardous Waste

The program runs yearly (budget permitting) in late spring and is advertised on local radio stations, in the newspaper as well as a flyer delivered through Canada Post to all residents.
