Gananoque

Garbage

Garbage tags are available for $1.25 at the following locations: The Town Hall, A&P, White's Grocetiera, Shopper's Convenience, and Town & Country Depot.

Recycling

Gananoque has a curbside recycling program. See the schedule. Recyclable products are divided into two types - "paper" box and "blue" box.

Paper Box Recyclables

Ensure that no loose material  will blow out and cause litter.

  • newspaper and flyers (glossy or plain)
  • fine paper (e.g. writing paper, computer paper, mail)
  • boxboard such as cereal, cracker and cookie boxes, detergent/laundry cartons, shoe and tissue boxes, paper egg cartons, toilet and paper towel rolls and pizza boxes.
  • magazines, catalogues and phone directories
  • corrugated cardboard - flattened. Large boxes may be places beside or under your paper box.

Contaminants that should not be place in the Paper Box;

  • plastic bags, tubs or bottles
  • styrofoam
  • waxes or coated boxes
  • glass, cans or metal

Blue Box Recyclables

Ensure all items are empty and rinsed clean.

  • Glass food and beverage bottles & jars
  • Metal food & beverage cans
  • CLEAN EMPTY PAINT CANS - lids must be off
  • Plastic bottles - only items marked with a recycling symbol containing the numbers 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 (i.e. soft drink, juice & water, LCBO,household detergent, home cleaning and laundry containers)
  • Aluminum pie plates & foil, rigid foil containers & trays
  • Margarine and yogurt tubs

Contaminants that should not be placed in the Blue Box:

  • Motor oil bottles or herbicide/pesticide bottles
  • Window glass,dishes or mirrors
  • Styrofoam
  • Pots & pans
  • Paper

Recycling boxes are available at the Town Hall for $7.00 each.

Composting

The town will also pick up leaves, brush, clean lumber, and yard (garden) waste once each fall. See the website for details.

Hazardous Waste

Gananoque has Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) days to dispose of hazardous items. These are usually held in the fall.
