Hazardous Waste Depot
for Lanark Municipalities
A Household Hazardous Waste Depot, located in Carleton Place, is open to residents of participating Lanark County municipalities and the Town of Smiths Falls every Saturday from June 5, 2010 to late September, 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
Eligible Municipalities: Beckwith, Carleton Place, Mississippi Mills, Montague, Perth and Smiths Falls.
Non-Eligible Municipalities: Drummond/North Elmsley, Lanark Highlands and Tay Valley.
Waste items must be identifiable and in a sealed container.
The following items are accepted:
- motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters
- flammable liquids (gasoline, solvents, strippers, turpentine)
- latex paint, oil paint and stain
- organic flammable (adhesives, driveway sealant, caulk, resin)
- propane cylinders
- lead acid vehicle batteries or dry cell batteries
- aerosol cans
- acid or base corrosives (cleaners, drain openers, rust remover)
- pesticides
- oxidizers (pool chemicals, fertilizer)
- fire extinguishers
The following items are not accepted:
- mercury (mercury filled thermometers, thermostats)
- PCB contaminated waste (fluorescent light ballasts)
- pathological waste (syringes)
- pharmaceuticals (prescription or non-prescription drugs for human or veterinary use)
- oxygen, freon or acetylene gas
- radioactive waste (smoke detectors)
- ammunition, explosives or flares
- asbestos
- tires
Location: 122 Patterson Crescent, Carleton Place
Directions from Highway 7:
- travel east on Highway 7 from the Highway 7 / Highway 15 intersection
- turn left at the first set of lights onto McNeely Avenue (Tim Horton’s is on your left and Canadian Tire is on your right)
- pass through the first set of lights at Lake Avenue
- turn left at the next set of lights onto Patterson Crescent
- follow the signs, depot will be on your right past the first set of houses
- if you reach the Curling Club, you've gone too far
Please be prepared to show identification, such as a driver's license, to prove you are a resident.
