Merrickville - Wolford

Garbage

Tagged garbage and blue boxes are picked up at curbside in the Merrickville Ward. Garbage and recycling must be at curbside by 7 a.m. Garbage tags and landfill passes are required for items that cannot be put out to curb. Consult the municipal office for a printed list of rates.

Landfill passes and garbage bags are available at the municipal office. Merrickville Ward - $1.00 per tag, Wolford Ward $0.50 per tag. Bag tags have no expiry date.

The landfill site is located at 3512 County Rd. 16. Phone (613) 269-2987.

Hours: Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Recycling

Recyclables are collected curbside on an alternate week schedule: Fiber one week and containers the next.

Fiber Recyclables:

  • Newspapers and flyers (glossy or plain)
  • Magazines, catalogues and telephone books
  • Fine paper (writing, computer or mail)
  • Box board
  • Corrugated cardboard, flattened. May be put beside or under blue box.

Container Recyclables (rinsed and clean):

  • Plastic bottles numbers 1 or 2
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Windshield washer, vinegar, shampoo and lotion bottles
  • Aluminum pie plates and foil, rigid foil containers and trays
  • Metal food and beverage cans

Do not include:

  • Motor oil, pesticide or herbicide bottles or cans
  • margarine containers or yogurt tubs
  • pots and pans
  • styrofoam
  • glass from windows, dishes or mirrors
  • Tupperware, Rubbermaid or Ziploc plastic
  • plastics with numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7
  • plastic bags

Compost

 

Hazardous Waste

Merrickville-Wolford residents can participate in the Household Hazardous Waste Days organized by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, held annually in August or September. All items must be in their original containers.

Materials accepted include pesticides, rat poison, pharmaceuticals, medication, cleaning fluids, battery acids, drain cleaner, oven cleaner, auto batteries, dry cell batteries, BBQ starter , motor oil, solvents, propane cylinders, paints, pool chemicals, ammonia and bleach.
