Montague

Garbage

Montague Township operates a weekly curbside garbage collection. Garbage pick-up in the Township is ALWAYS on Wednesday or Friday.  The only exception is if Christmas Day and New Years Day falls on one of those days in which case, pick-up will be the following day.

Garbage is to be placed at the roadside in an animal-proof container by 7 a.m. on the morning of collection. 

The Township provides an allocation of 90 garbage bag tags per year per household.  These may be picked up at the Township Office any time during the year.  Additional tags may be purchase for $1 per tag. 

In addition to regular garbage pick-ups, the Township also holds a Special Drop-Off Day each spring and fall at the Township Office to allow residents to get rid of large items. Trash tags or equivalent monetary value is required as per By-law 2258-95. See prices.

Items which are acceptable include:

  • White metals
  • Furniture
  • Tires
  • Scrap metal
  • Propane tanks

NO hazardous waste, animal or commercial waste will be accepted.

Recycling

Montague operates a weekly curbside blue box program.

What goes into the Blue Box:

  • #1and #2 plastic containers
  • Metal and Aluminum Cans
  • Aluminum trays and foil
  • Empty Aerosol and Paint Cans
  • Glass bottles and jars

What goes on top or beside the Blue Box (bundle each separately) :

  • Boxboard
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Newspapers, magazines, and household paper

Plastic #3 - 7

Starting in June 2010, residents will be able to recycle plastics with numbers 3 to 7.  Drop-off bins will be located at the Montague Township complex at 6547 Roger Stevens Drive and available weekdays between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm. 

# 3 – (PVC) - cooking oil bottles, juice bottles, cling films, PVC piping

#4 – (LDPE) - frozen food bags, flexible container lids, squeezable ketchup and mustard bottles

#5 – (PP) - reusable microwaveable wares, yogurt containers, margarine tubs, disposable cups, plates, & take-away containers

#6 – (PS) - egg cartons, styrofoam containers, packing peanuts

#7 – other plastics, which include: fast food beverage containers, baby bottles, cell phones, CDs, electronics casings, sports water bottles

Hazardous Waste

Montague residents can use the Household Hazardous Waste Depot in Carleton Place.
