Garbage
Effective June 1, 2010 there is a new collection schedule which covers GreenBins, YellowBoxes, BlueBoxes and Garbage.
See the new collection schedule and map.
All garbage containers or bags must have a full official Town of Perth garbage tag on them or they will not be picked up. Tags are made available for pick up at Town Hall each September, with the number of “free” tags being set by Council. Additional tags, if required, can be purchased at Town Hall for $2.50 each.
Large Items
Large, bulky items, such as furniture, lumber, or appliances, will not be accepted curbside. It is your responsibility to either bring the materials yourself to the landfill, or contract with a local handyman to provide that service.
The Town of Perth operates the Perth Landfill Site located on Wildlife Road.
Hours:
- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8 am - noon and 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm
- Thursday 2 - 4:30
- Saturdays 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (also recycling depot open at this time)
Charges apply. See the full list.

Starting June 1, 2010, Perth’s Curbside Recycling Program is expanding and switching to an Alternate Week Fibre/Container program. Residents will get a new YellowBox, together with a new collection calendar and information brochure. Here’s how the program works:
Week One - Fibres in your BlueBox
Put all of your newspaper, boxboard, and cardboard in or beside your BlueBox (cardboard must be flattened, bundled and left next to your BlueBox).
Week Two – Containers in your YellowBox
Put all of your steel and aluminum cans, glass food and beverage containers, narrow neck plastic bottles (#1 and #2), and aluminum foil and trays and empty paint cans.
AND NOW you can also include:
- Milk and juice gable end cartons
- Juice and drinking boxes (e.g. “tetrapaks”)
- Wide mouth plastic dairy containers (#5 and #6)
But please, NO:
- plastic bags
- plant trays
- styrofoam
- clear or black “clamshell” plastic containers, trays or boxes
- other plastic containers (#7)
See further details from Perth Composts site.
Hazardous Waste
Perth residents may use the Household Hazardous Waste Depot in Carleton Place.
Perth Home Hardware (115 Drummond Street West) is now a licensed depot where you can drop off your used paints and stains as well as single use and lead acid batteries at no charge.
Compost
Effective November 2008, Perth has a curbside GreenBin organics collection system. See perthcomposts.com/?page=organics for full details.
This does not include leaf and yard waste. Residents are encouraged to continue backyard composting as well.
The annual leaf pickup is usually held in early November. Watch the Perth Courier for dates, or contact Town Hall in October (267-3311). Please have your leaves in paper or clear plastic bags by 7:30 am of the designated collection day/week. The bags do not require bag tags. You may also bring your leaf and garden waste directly to the Perth Waste Management Site at 666 Wildlife Road, free of charge, during regular landfill hours.
