Volunteer Opportunities

REAL would not exist without the dedication of our many volunteers. Whether you have a few hours to spare one time or would like to be involved on a more regular basis, we could use your help. If you are interested in any of the following tasks, please contact us and our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch to discuss it further.

The REAL Deal Store - Volunteers assist in the store receiving, sorting, pricing, arranging, organizing and tidying, sweeping, dusting, doing displays, assisting customers etc.

Handyman Skills - Are always needed at the REAL Deal Store for minor repairs or carpentry, testing small appliances, for knowledge of hardware and construction materials.

Staffing Displays - REAL frequently has displays at public events throughout Lanark, Leeds and Grenville. Volunteers are needed to hand out literature and talk to passers by, and to set up and take down the displays.

Distribute Newsletters - Five printed newsletters are prepared per year and need to be distributed to public places. We would be particularly interested in someone who could deliver some to communities surrounding Smiths Falls.

Postering - People needed to put up posters of REAL events in public places on an as-needed basis.

Organizers - People willing to take the lead on a given project.

Committees - People needed to serve on committees: Waste Reduction, Public Education, Climate Change, Communications, Watershed Issues, Fundraising and Finance etc.

Pitch-In - People required to help during Pitch-In Week in late April and to prepare the three months prior.

Shoreline Cleanup - Volunteers needed to coordinate or assist with a one day cleanup in late September.

Researchers - People who like to spend time online, at the library or on the phone investigating topics for our newsletter, projects or funding applications.

Special Skills - If you have any special skills or knowledge you think would be an asset to REAL, we’d like to hear from you.
