Composting is a great way to reduce your kitchen and garden waste and return valuable nutrients to your lawn and garden. It is estimated that about 40% of most residential waste is compostable materials. Using a backyard composter will reduce the garbage you put out for collection and help extend the life of area landfills. The compost generated is a safe, natural, slow release fertilizer for your plants, that helps retain soil moisture, reducing the need to water. A bonus for you and environment!
To encourage householders to begin composting, REAL is offering a $10 REAL Deal Reuse Store gift certificate with each purchase of a $50 Earth Machine (tax included). Composters are available for purchase at the REAL Deal Store, 85 William St. W. beginning May 14. REAL is hosting a spring garden fundraiser that Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Rain barrels, mushroom compost, a limited number of seeds and some pollinator themes items will be available also. While quantities last, the composters will be available at the store after May 14th as well.
