Rideau Volunteers is a partnership between the Rideau Canal Museum (RCM) and the Rideau Environmental Action League (REAL). Made possible through an Ontario Trillium Foundation. grant, the Rideau Volunteer’s mission is to bolster the number of volunteers supporting these two well respected, long-standing organizations.
The partnership is designed to draw attention to the link between the local natural environment and cultural heritage with its tag line of: Protecting our cultural heritage and environmental future.
To REAL and RCM, the partnership is an obvious one where the link between our local history and our natural environment is to be explored and appreciated. While changes to the river today are not usually as large as those made by Col By in the past, we must recognize that we humans impact the natural environment more than any other species. We have the choice regarding how healthy we want our environment to be.
The Rideau Volunteers are looking for many people to fill many types of volunteer jobs with RCM or REAL. Jobs vary in length of commitment from a few hours to long term. Jobs vary in skill level required and skill level developed. Use your editing and writing skills to help create newsletters and reports; use your decision-making skills by serving on the board of directors. Develop skills by learning to use the cash register; learn to plan and deliver environmental or fundraising events.
