Cleanup by Canoe, Sat. Oct. 24

Cleanup of LRP from Voyageur Canoes for Waste Reduction Week

Participants in voyageur canoe tours have noticed quite a bit of garbage in the Rideau River, but you can help!  A Waste Reduction Week cleanup of the shoreline at Lower Reach Park (LRP) from voyageur canoes is being organized by the Rideau Roundtable and REAL.

The event will take place this Saturday, October 24, with a 1.5-2 hour tour leaving at 12 pm and a 2-2.5 hour tour leaving at 2 pm. The canoes will launch from the docks of Lower Reach Park.  Jake will provide canoe instruction and some interpretation along the way, and participants will gather the garbage.

All participants will be socially distanced. All equipment used (life jackets, paddles, “trash picker”, etc.) and the canoe will be sanitized after each tour.

All participants must RSVP to [email protected] with their group size and number of separate social bubbles.

Come join us and take action to clean up our rivers and get safely outside during COVID-19.

Jake, staff member from the Rideau Roundtable, explains.
