The REAL Tool Library is a non-profit project promoting the use of used tools, saving tools destined for landfills, and reducing the need to purchase new tools for short term use.
The majority of our tool inventory comes from donations. If you own a good, functional tool that you would like to donate please contact us.
The service will be starting October 1, 2021.
How Does it Work
Those wishing to use the Tool Library will be asked to purchase a tool library membership. An introductory six month membership of $25 entitles you to borrow tools for a 6 month period. A 12 month membership is $45. Please see our tool inventory catalogue, which describes the tools available. We primarily have small, portable power hand tools.
Members can borrow tools for one week at a time: Wednesday to Wednesday, Thursday to Thursday, Friday to Friday and Saturday to Saturday. Tools can be borrowed and returned during store hours, Wednesday to Saturday 10 am. to 1 p.m. Tools can be reserved by email or by phone from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extensions for another week are possible if the tool has not already been reserved.
Multiple tools can be reserved within the same period.
Tools are available on a first come, first served basis. Phone the REAL Deal store at (613) 283-7999 to determine availability and reserve the tool(s).
Members are required to sign waivers and must be over the age of 18.
When a tool is returned late, the member will be charged $3/day, even if the store is not open. E.g. if a tool is due Saturday, and is not returned until the following Wednesday, a 4 day late fee will apply.
If a tool is not returned, the member will be charged a replacement fee, and will not be permitted to borrow another tool until it is returned or payment made.
Normal wear and tear of tools is inevitable and we will ask members for feedback when they return the tool.
In some unusual instances, members may be charged for damage to equipment.
