REAL Members Meeting to Approve a Revised Bylaw

The REAL Board needs to update the existing bylaw for our organization.  It was last updated November 2006.  According to our current bylaw, changes such as this must be approved by the membership.  A quorum of seven members must be present and a vote taken.

The meeting will take place
Monday, March 11, 2019 at 6:30  – 7:00 p.m.
at the
Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario (RMEO)
90 William St., Smiths Falls

Our regular monthly board meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m.  You are not expected to stay for it. Please RSVP to Donna ([email protected] or 283-2254) as we need to ensure we have enough people present.

These are the major changes:

• Changing the number of board members so we can have 7 – 12 members.
• Changing the board term to two years, as well as changing the term for committee appointments to two years.
• Allowing board members by participate in board meetings by phone or electronic means.
• Allowing members to vote at members meeting by proxy.
• Reducing number required for quorum at members meetings

Further refinements were made to meet ONCA (Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act) requirements, which is expected to be mandatory by 2020.
