REAL has received funding from Summer Jobs Canada to hire two young people for 32 hours a week for eight weeks.

Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30.  One of the positions is primarily inside the store, the other primarily in the yard.

Retail Sales Clerk  (primarily inside the store) 

• Assist in REAL Deal Reuse Store (will include customer service, management of inventory, merchandise displays, online sales, promotion and other related duties)
• Promote REAL’s and other environmental programs to visitors and customers of the REAL Deal Store and Environment Centre
• Promote REAL’s programs (e.g. kill a watt meter, home energy audits, rain barrels, community garden etc.) and other area environmental programs (electronics and hazardous waste recycling depots, municipal options, composting)
• Educate the public on environmental issues through biweekly special features such as displays, features, or mini-workshops at the REAL Deal Reuse Store
• Assist with preparation and staffing of REAL’s information table at area summer events
• Assist with the REAL Community garden and monarch garden
• Other related tasks

Used Building Materials Yard Attendant

• Work in the yard of the REAL Deal Store.  Duties to include:
• Receive donations from the public including determining if donations are acceptable, and  record municipalities and weight of donations
• Help customers find the items they are looking for
• Keep the yard neat and organized
• Follow all safety guidelines to ensure a safe workplace and safe environment for customers.
• Assist customers with heavy items
• Assist with the maintenance of the site including grass cutting and minor repairs
• Assist with scrap metal collection and e-waste collection at the site
• Other related tasks

The yard attendant must be fit, able to work outdoors, and able to lift. Most weeks the student will work Wednesday through Saturday at the REAL Deal Store, 85 William St. W., Smiths Falls.  Some off site work at summer events is possible particularly for inside staff.
